Year of Establishment : 1992-93

Mission : “Creating Software Professionals”.

The  PG Dept. of Computer Science in Dr. C.S.Rao P.G.Centre, Sri Y.N.College(A) was established in the academic year 1992-93 with the introduction of MCA Programme , a three year Master’s Degree Programme in Computer Science in  the Andhra University area. It began as part of the P.G.Courses, under Headship of Dr. N.Chinta Rao, Director. This course was inaugurated by Dr.Allam Apparao, former Vice Chancellor, Adikavi Nannaya University. At inauguration time he was Head of  the Department, Dept of C.S.E, Andhra University.  The MCA  Programme is being approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (A.I.C.T.E), New Delhi since 1994 and it obtained Autonomous Status from 17th July 2020.

Sri Y.N.College has started Master of Computer Applications (MCA) Programme in the year 1992 with an intake of 30 seats and is being successfully running, which was subsequently increased to 42 seats in the year 2002-03 and now for the academic year 2020-21 the total available seats are 64 (46 Convenor and 18 Category-B seats).

Now the department is affiliated to Adikavi Nannaya University with effect from 2015-16’ academic year. The faculty members of the department are highly qualified.

In the academic year 2020-21, 3 years MCA programme has been changed to 2 years MCA programme by the AICTE and the State Government,  the Department got Autonomous status and is running the programme successfully by meeting all the requirements.

The eminent persons who had visited the Department Prof. Pratap V.Reddy, HOD, Rochester Institute of Technology, USA, Prof.K.TammiReddy, GITAM University, Vizag, Dr. P S Avadhani and Prof.K.Sampath Kumar, Andhra University, Vizag and Dr.P.Suresh Varma, Adikavi Nannaya University. The other Professors Dr. G. Padmaraju, Dr. Y.S.S.R. Murthy and Dr. R. PardhasaradhiVarma and  senior professionals form the Software Industry  had been frequently visiting the department and delivered guest lectures, organized seminars and workshops.

The MCA Department has successfully sent 26 batches. Many of our Alumni are working across the globe.

The MCA Programme gives exposure to the  students, not only the regular curriculum but also to the aspirations of today’s corporate world by inculcating a professional attitude. This program has well-defined learning objectives including program outcomes, program specific outcomes and course outcomes. Curriculum development and delivery guidelines and norms relating to Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) are as per AICTE and UGC guidelines and norms.

The course has been enriched by offering additional value-added courses and flexibility in choosing elective courses. The final semester students pursue dissertation/project work/internships in National Institutes and Industries. As a result, the program is well diversified and regularly upgraded to fulfill the needs of the local/ national/regional and global developments. This program is focused towards enhancing employability of the students.

Course Details:
Eligibility for MCA:
  • Passed B.Sc/B.Com/B.A with Matematics at  Intermediate level or at Graduation level(with additional Bridge Courses as per the norms of the concerned University). Obtained at least 50 Marks (45% marks in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying examination.
Mode of Admission:
  • Through (APICET) Entrance examination and Counseling conducted by APSCHE.
  • For the candidates seeking admission under category B, I-CET qualification is not mandatory.
MCA Course Structure:
  • Two Year Programme with four semesters.
  • Six papers and Two Labs for I, II & III semesters.
  • Every student has to undergo for project work during 4th Semester.
  • Summer internship for two weeks during May-June at the end of first year.
  • Viva-Voce at the end of fourth semester.
  • Total Marks 2800(18 Theory papers,  6 Labs)
Intake and Fee Details :
  • Total Intake: 64 per batch.
  • Fee particulars: Rs. 35,600/- per Annum.
Electives:

To supplement the core, elective subjects are offered to provide a better understanding of the technology behind the applications of computing.

Laboratory:

The students are given a thorough exposure of the basic working of a computer through experiments conducted on various digital devices and microprocessors for underpinning their concepts.

They are equipped with the latest configuration, networked to high end servers in the server room. All systems provide access to high end softwares and are Wi-fi enabled, providing access to Internet which can be extended. The labs are equipped with LCD projectors to aid the learning process.

Assignments:

Along with the theory courses, assignments are given to hone the students’ analytical and problem solving skills. The assignments provide an opportunity for students to apply the knowledge and skills gained in various courses as they synthesize a solution to a significant, realistic and practical problem.

Projects / Presentations:

While conventional methodologies in terms of classroom learning are important, students are provided with considerable exposure to real life situations by the way of case studies and projects. Students work in teams to analyze the problem, plan software development and implement a solution. Students work closely with faculty members and periodically make presentations about the technical work and process issues.

Industry Projects:

To prepare the students for technical positions in the software industry and to give the necessary hands-on practical experience, the curriculum includes 4 months of professional training in the industry during 4th semester of MCA.

Infrastructure:
  • The department of MCA is having well established laboratory facilities with broad band internet connection of 100 Mbps speed.
  • The department consists of Four Laboratories., one computer organization lab and three application programming Labs consists of 62 systems to conduct practical classes.
  • Computer Lab-1 consists of 23 Systems having the following Configuration
  • RAM: 4 GB, HDD: 1 TB, Processor: i3 – 10 systems
  • RAM: 2 GB, HDD: 500 GB, Processor: Core2 Duo (2.33GHz) -13 systems
  • Computer Lab-2 consists of 26 Systems having the following Configuration
  • RAM: 2 GB, HDD: 300 GB, Processor: Core2 Duo (2.93GHz)
  • Computer Lab-3 consists of 13 CRT Systems.
Highlights:
Bridge Course
  • “Fundamentals of Computer Science”   is offered   to the Non-IT students during the first semester

  • The Department is conducting a Certificate Course in “Web Designing” to Degree Students by Miss K.R.Sravanthi, Faculty of MCA Department.

Guest Lectures :
  • As part of the curriculum the Department organizes guest lectures by inviting eminent Professors and experienced managers from the academic and industry fields. More than 300 lectures have been arranged since the inception of the course.

  • The department, in order to prevent the menace of ragging, has initiated the formation of Anti-Ragging Force by involving final year students and the faculty members.
  • The department is striving towards excellence with a Mission of “Creating Software Professionals” with a special focus on improving Soft- Skills and the overall character of the students.
